TPLINK WN823N with RTL8192eu on Linux/Ubuntu/PC Mint 18

I recently purchased TP-LINK WN823N Wifi Dongle for my desktop and found that the drivers for Linux  were not getting installed. I am using PC Mint 18 with all the latest updates patched. TP-Link's site had drivers for Linux but it was giving me some errors while compiling it for installation. After trying lot of things, I finally landed up on this site -> http://askubuntu.com/questions/731809/will-ubuntu-16-04-support-the-rtl8192eu-chipset-out-of-the-box 

Here one of user had provided one solution which worked for me, simply open the Terminal window and execute every line (note after 1st line you will be prompted to enter the administrator password). Basically, we need to reboot the system after these statements and the replug the dongle and viola! it worked for me :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rtl8192eu-dkms 

reboot 

After reboot, replug the dongle. and it should work

Note that my dongle was using RTL8192EU chipset and this I was able to identify from the source files while I downloaded from TP Link site.

Yu Yureka - Simply the Best..!!

Though Flash Sales are really bad marketing strategies for aspirant purchasers who didn't make it in those flash sales, it works perfectly for those who manage to grab it..!! 

Nowadays the client scripts (JQuery / Javascript hacks) makes it almost impossible for normal buyer to get a product like Yu Yureka, this is perfect for geeks who wants and knows how to acquire it.. And I must say the satisfaction of earning Yureka from a flash sale is simply amazing. I bought this couple of weeks back and I too used a scripts to get my purchase done and I must say this is an awesome product.. its not just about the hardware been given at such a cheap price Rs.8999/- but the software also rocks. 

CynogenMod 11, that comes with Yureka is simply king of Android Mods, the optimizations and tricks it gives to users are simply so intuitive that it makes us wonder why this was not there in stock Android, it doesn't looks like those features are hard to be made available. Double Tap on screen on Mobile unlocks, Double Tap on Notification Bar at Top and it locks the screen - no need to touch those power buttons. Superb Theme changers and not just those wallpaper themes Themes in CynogenMod are just beyond any experience you must have seen before, the Font / Font colors, all icons of all the applications, the settings/gmail/notification bar/ navigation bar/ etc.. all gets swapped to new looks with just few taps for theme change... This is something really good to experience.

I bought this with a Toughened Glass from CloudTail itself at Rs.399/- and it was a perfect fit in orignal Yu Packing.. simply think they should have bundled this with the mobile itself as this is really premium and perfect fit. Its even has a scratch resistant layer so this is perfect. The mobile box does comes with a scratch guard but if we use toughened glass then its not even required. So really they should have packed Toughened Glass instead of the scratch guard. 

I previously had bad experience with screen getting shattered on my office Note 2 and really its heart breaking event to see that happen and so this time when I purchased Yureka I ensured I have toughened glass is also purchased. Something that's worth spending. 

Yureka is really a slim phone for a 5.5 inch piece, and its also very light so it almost feels that it would fall if you use it with one hand. So I even decided to go for a flip cover, I felt to make this purchase a premium experience. I didn't like the official backcovers which were been offered on Amazon as these doesn't prevent the screen shatters or any kind of safety as such, its just for looks. I always felt that the flip covers do protect the glass and the mobile much better than others, though the downside is it becomes bit bulky and difficult to use one handedly. Though I decided to still go for a Flip Cover, after checking out Pudini and other brands I felt the magnetic latching lock on Nillkin was a perfect cover and it also looked premium with a see through window opening. But its tough to get originals at a good price.. I took a chance and order a one on eBay for Rs.699/- at this link and fortunately it was a original piece and a perfect one.. due to the magnet latch it fits perfectly and looks really premium. As Yureka doesn't have any magnetic sensor on it to be used with a magnetic flip cover, I installed the SmartCover App and I must say it works perfectly as a magnetic flip cover. This app is free and has some other good features and it really enhanced by experience of Yu Yureka.. 

What should I say more, perfect mobile with perfect hardware, best software, right price.. fortunately got those add-ons as well which turn out to be original buys and really superb experience.. !!!

I must say this is one of best if not the best purchases I have done in last few years.. and I am very very satisfied. Thanks Yureka!!

Where is Netgear Downloader in Netgear JNR 3210 Wifi Router??

I bought Netgear JNR 3210 couple of months back as I wanted to a Gigabit switch and a wifi router. This one was the cheapest mere Rs. 2950/- (in India) and it served me both the purpose.

This one has a lot of good features like USB port (allowing attaching usb drives/printer which shares this across the network, DLNA/uPnP media share (allowing client to connect and have any media get streamed directly by router), etc. Well, consider these features this could easily serve as a NAS and it works like a charm, better than my iOmega Home Media Cloud Edition 2TB drive (which fails intermittently).

This router even has a Netgear Downloader which allows downloading Torrent/files directly by Router on the attached USB drives without the need to keep any PC/Laptop kept on.
But it surprsingly this feature is not there on screen, Netgear sometime back during it firmware upgrade had removed it. Infact this feature was only there when this Router was launched with version 1.1.0.14 (at time of this blog Netgear had released version 1.1.0.27)

I reached Netgear helpline and they really were not even aware that it was been removed from this router, they seems to be still referring the launched version UI and insisted that there is a Netgear Downloader menu on screen which can be clicked and configured to download files.

So googled to find that one other user had complained about this to Netgear and the offical there has mentioned that its been discontinued. Upon deeper investigation I even was more surprised that they even had done some patch for this feature in 1.1.0.25 version. But really where was this.. Netgear seems to have done this with the DLNA as well in past but that feature came back in later versions.

It took me 3 days of dedicated time and fortunately it came up.. I was able to install the 1.1.0.14 version and see that feature working and it was cool and useful. But then I can't keep version 1.1.0.14 a dated version on my router missing some good number of service packs and releases. I jumped back to the latest release. But really why would they give a patch in 1.1.0.25 for this when its been removed... or is it still there??

Well its still there, just that its hidden.. And here is the way to get it..

Login to the router control panel. lets say your router IP is 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 then login to that as admin


Once logged in.. enter url :

or
http://192.168.0.1/GD_download_manage.htm&todo=cfg_init

and you have it the Downloader is still there but just hidden, they have forgotten to add that menu back. Or may be there is a security issue to this.. But it doesn't seems to be.


So go ahead and use this hidden gem and Enjoy the green technology revolution.. no pcs required to be kept ON whole night to download our torrents.. Only 8watt router and its superb!!

Solving Auto-Rotate Issue in Micromax A116 Canvas HD

MicroMax A116 Canvas HD has one issue in the box pack piece.. the G-Sensor Calibration is too off and owing which it simply doesn't auto-rotate:


Good News is you can easily fix the issue by calibrating the auto-rotation sensor..  


Do the following for steps to fix it:

1. First switch OFF the mobile
2. Then we have to switch it ON but by pressing 3 keys - PRESS (Both) UP & DOWN KEY ALONG WITH THE POWER BUTTON to switch on the mobile
3. Enter Factory Mode
4. Select ITEM TEST
5. Select G-SENSOR CALIBRATION
6. Put the mobile on a Table such that the CAMERA is outside the surface, we will have to ensure that the mobile is completely horizontal and not tilted because of the camera that comes out at back cover.
7. Press SETTINGS Key and Do NOT TOUCH the mobile.. The calibrations will start NOW..
8. Once Calibration is DONE....Go Back and then REBOOT the mobile your problem will be solved....
9. Micromax Canvas A116 is an awesome mobile, Enjoy it!!

Some users have found that this issue comes back again.. but it works fine for most of the users.. To solve the issue if it comes back you can install an Screen Orientation Control App from Google Playstore and manually orient the screens when required. Its also a good option to lock your screens when you want it oriented in specific way even when you are moving your mobile.
